Airtime is a new video-chat web app that connects to your Facebook account, scans your interests, and pairs you up with random like-minded friends of your Facebook friends.
Remember Chatroulette, that web app that would randomly connect you with strangers for fun, awkward, impromptu video chats? Airtime is the more mature version of that, created by Napster founders Sean Parker and Shawn Fanning. When you log in to Airtime, you give it access to your Facebook account (with permissions that you can later change in Airtime’s settings), and it scans your friends list and interests. You can either chat with one of your friends or get matched up with a random individual based on your interests, where they live, and/or whether they’re a friend of a friend (which is a handy way of avoiding random internet creeps). When you first start chatting, you’ll be anonymous, but you can reveal your name and Facebook profile if you decide you like the person with whom you’re chatting.
The video quality is great, and it has some other cool features built in, such as the ability to click a button to show more common interests, a section in which you can watch YouTube videos simultaneously and more. Check out the video above to get a look, or hit the link below to try it out for yourself — it’s actually pretty fun.
