The Influence Of Big Brands Toward Google Algorithm (Infographic)

|

For years, Google has moved to increase the weighting placed on brand-like signals in their organic search algorithms.

By intentionally penalising new sites, Google gives big brands an inherent advantage. To design, host and promote a “valuable” site (in Google’s perspective) requires thousands of dollars. So, there is a revolving door of “new sites” that rotate into existence, since very small businesses have the education, budget or patience to withstand an international and systematic battlefield.

Years later, after many additional rounds of brand boosts, Google spends tens of millions of dollars advertising targeted at small businesses, making them think Google – particularly AdWords – is the way to grow their business. Here is an infographic that covers the story on how brand came to dominate Google’s relevancy algorithm.
