On the first quarter of 2014, Instagram led the race of the fastest-growing social platform. Now, its position is going to be overtaken by Tumblr and Pinterest, which have beaten out the picture-sharing app for greatest increase in active users.

In the last six months, Tumblr’s active users has grew by 120%, while Facebook’s active users grew by just 2%. Pinterest comes in right behind Tumblr with a 111% growth in active users.

Earlier this year, Instagram was on top position. Unfortunately, now it has dropped to third place. Of the top eight, in fact, Facebook is in last place, behind LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube and Google+.

Still, these numbers only refer to growth. While growing fast, Tumblr still comes in at eighth place for overall active users. Facebook maintains a considerable lead when it comes to number and popularity. However, the social media giant seems like it could be reaching its breaking point of interest for users. Most of Tumblr’s audience is youngsters, while Facebook is heavily populated by seniors more than any other social media channel.

For mobile apps, Snapchat had the biggest growth, with a 56% growth in six months. Facebook Messenger came in second, though this isn’t too surprising since Facebook has obliged many of its users to download the independent app to use its service. Instagram came in third for app usage, followed by LINE, Pinterest, KakaoTalk and Vine.

It should be notified that Facebook has some big problems to face as it moves forward. Many people are getting bored with the platform, as more people are using it far less frequently than they used to. For now, Facebook’s leader status seems safe, yet the market of social media is a fierce battlefield. Everybody needs to stay alert in order to gain the best result.
