Pinterest is introducing a new technology that will enable users to search its site without using text.
Most search requires keywords, yet it is not uncommon for users not to know what it is they are looking for (which makes traditional search impossible). Say, for example, that a user sees attractive lamp in an image on Pinterest but they don’t know the name of the style of that lamp so they end their investigation. Not anymore, thanks to Pinterest’s new visual search.
Using Pinterest’s new tool, users are able to tap the search tool in the corner of images and select the part of the Pin they are interested in. Pintest will then show Pins just like it. Users can even filter their “visual search results by topic so they can find what they are looking for.
The new search tools will be available on both desktop and smartphones.
