Australian News and Statistics: Almost 100 Hours of Aussies’ Time were Spent on TV Each Month

Aussies watch almost 100 hours of TV in a month, with most of that is live and through a large screen. However, recorded TV and small screens are growing in use.

Latest research from OzTam Nielsen found that of the 96 hours of TV people watch each month, 93% of that was traditional TV in the third quarter of 2013. 99% of Australian homes have converted to digital TV, while 22% of homes have internet connected TV’s and 37% of homes have tablet devices. More than half of households (53%) have a digital TV recording device. Two thirds (67%) of Australian’s have a smartphone and people spend an average of one hour and 20 minutes watching online video on them each month.

People spend five hours and 18 minutes a month watching online video – both catch-up TV and non-broadcast content – and 50 minutes a month watching videos on tablet devices, according to the data. The report also claims to be the only report that measures viewing across devices
