An Aussie start-up is claiming to find the perfect solution for all flip-flop users.

Willi Footwear, a startup from Gold Coast, has raised $10,000 in an hour after putting its product on crowdfunding website Indiegogo. Within 24 hours the company hit 45% of the $30,000 goal.

Basically, their main product is thongs (also known as flip-flops, sandals or jandals) with “little yet crucial” alterations. Unlike the conventional ones, each of their thongs has a unique boomerang shaped plug! Not only are the newly designed thongs a practical solution to possibly the worst problem Australians have, they are also pretty good looking. The thongs have interchangeable straps which come in a range of colours and sizes.

Here is the hilarious video promotion:

The company utilised the power of social media and local celebrities such as Iron Woman champion Courtney Hancock and Bondi lifeguard Trent Maxwell to get their campaign viral and the funding rose.

“We are overwhelmed by the support so far, but there is a long road ahead and we’re focusing on reaching our funding goal,” said Brad Munro, the founder of Willi Footwear.

The success of Willi Footwear has taught us one important lesson: No matter whether you are a big company or a small startup, your consumers want you to solve their problem. Give them the real solution in the most creative (and original, if possible) way and you’ll expect success in no time.
