Google Has Been Implied as A “Scraper Site”, Which Brings A Lot of Retweets to the Marketer

On Thursday, Google made an announcement to report if there are sites that have copied or “scraped” content and are outranking the publishers themselves. However, a tweet from a marketer pointing out that Google might be doing what it’s against got far more attention that Google’s own request.

Marketer Dan Barker came up with an example of Google scraping Wikipedia’s content to outrank Wikipedia for “What is a scraper site”, implying that Google is a “scraper site”:

The tweet currently has overtaken the 16,000 retweet level of Oreo’s famous Super Bowl “blackout” tweet.
