Instagram’s New Tagging Feature

|

Just a few moments ago, Instagram had just announced its new update for iOS and Android apps, where users can tag their friends, brands and other people in their photos.

If you update the app to the latest version (v 3.5), you will now see another tab on your profile page where you can see photos in which you have been tagged. When clicked, it will show you the photos you have been tagged in, either by yourself or others.

Just like Facebook, you can review tags before they appear on your profile. To do this, just click on the little tool icon in the top right corner of the above picture. Here, you can change your setting:

Users will be able to privately test out this new ‘photos of you’ feature before it shows publicly to other users on May 16. You can of course decide not to show any tags if you wish.

To inform the worldwide society and its users, Instagram had released a promotional video which providing us some good insights on this feature:

Overall, this is a nice update by Instagram. It will no doubt bring further engagement and your photos can appear in more than one place.

For example if you take a photo with your friend and you are both tagged in the photo, it will show on your profile and your friends’ profile. This would also be the same for brands and company accounts. This gives more life and exposure to your Instagram photos. This update also presents new ways for brands to use Instagram by getting their followers to tag them in photo uploads.

It is also worth noting this update does bring some bug fixes and also now displays the pop up notifications in a new, simpler style.
