According to Facebook’s official announcement, paid advertising on Instagram will be introduced in Australia this year.
On its official statement, Facebook stated that Australia is one of the next countries where advertisers will be able to run ads on the platform. Last year, Instagram has been tested its sponsored posts in the US with several selected brands. However, it has strict guidelines on how these brands can post their pics, so that the content still looks “natural” in people’s feeds. This trial allowed users to give feedback on the displayed ads on their feed, so that Instagram could gauge the response and “learn what people liked and didn’t like”.
“As Instagram builds its business, we’ve put our community first every step of the way. So far, our community-focused efforts are working. The results for advertisers have been positive—and in some cases, well above the ad industry’s average for performance.”
Furthermore, Instagram says that it will take the same guidelines as it introduces ads into other regions. Beside Australia, the advertising program will be released to the UK and Canada at the same time. The roll out will continue to other regions further down the track.
“As with our initial roll-out, we are committed to learning as much as we can while building Instagram as a sustainable business. With this and future expansions of our advertising platform, we remain dedicated to building Instagram into the best possible experience for our entire global community.”
