For those who think that Facebook ads are getting annoying, the social media giant now reveal the reason.
Just like Instagram policy over its ads management, it seems that Facebook is doing the same way to ‘protect’ its consumers. Recently, Facebook lets its users discover why the company is showing them the ads they are seeing. Still, there is also an option to avoid it.
In 2012, Facebook introduced ad format that was worked based on the sites you visited. For instance, if you visit Rip Curl, you might see a Facebook ad for the surfboards on your timeline. Later on, Facebook included trackers from many different websites. This way, if you’ve visited Toyota’s, Ford’s and Chevrolet’s websites recently, Facebook might conclude that you’re interested in car and show you auto ads.
However, if you suddenly see a bunch of irrelevant ads on Facebook and are wondering why, you can now get an explanation from Facebook. On the Sponsored post, there’s a prompt asking “Why am I seeing this ad?”. Click it and you’ll notice Facebook’s reason behind the ad.
However, for users who are uncomfortable with the ads, Facebook is also providing a way to avoid receiving the ads both on desktop and mobile by altering your ad profile. This way, Facebook can deflect criticism that it iss infringing on users’ privacy. On If users do choose to opt out the ads, it seems that they will come across other ads that they find more annoying, since they are not relevant to their needs, at least according to Facebook’s logic.
